A short lived annual coriander likes a well drained fertile soil in light shade and if left to flower will self seed. It has been cultivated for at least two thousand years and the whole plant and seeds are used for curries, salads, pickling, baking and garnishing. It is rich in oils that act on the digestive system stimulating appetite and relieving irritation. Oil from the seeds is anti bacterial and anti fungal and is also used to help flavour gin and vermouth.
