Savory contains a large variety of essential oils which give it a characteristic aroma and flavour similar to oregano or thyme. It has been used as a culinary herb for many centuries, the peppery leaves used liberally for flavouring, particularly beans and meats. This creeping variety with its little white flower is perfect for a rock garden, container or retaining wall.
