A medicinal herb dating back to medieval times, this European native is used these days to enliven the garden with its scent and attractiveness to bees.

A very easy herb to grow in a sunny spot with some well drained soil. It is quite a speedy spreader which makes it very suitable for borders in low maintenance gardens where it will give ground cover. If the spread of calamint is a problem, then it looks very pretty grown in pots on the patio, gravelled areas or cottage gardens. 

Usage

Calamint grows extensively in some areas of Italy and the sweet aromatic peppermint like leaves and flowers are popular as flavouring. An infusion makes a pleasant tasting tea and improves digestive function and calms colic and bloating. It is a an absolute favourite with bees.
