A lovely little spreading perennial, woodruff was used to calm the nerves, soothe the spirit and support the liver. It can be steeped in wine to produce a tonic. This is a good herb for people with shadier gardens who struggle to grow the sun loving herbs.

This spreading perennial with its mass of starry white flowers in spring prefers to grow in rich moist soils in shade.
