A great plant for children who scour under the leaves daily during fruiting season to pick the sweet little strawberries, adults too!! They have a good repertoire of medicinal uses and are packed with easily assimilated iron, a fantastic plant to have growing in the garden.

- Type: Hardy
- Aspect: Shade/sun
- Soil: Any/alkaline
- Flower colour: White
- Flowering period: May - August
This fantastic little herb is very easy to grow and romps away in shaded or part shaded areas and on into the sunshine too. It spreads via branching runners which develop little plantlets on the end with their own leaves and roots and if you are growing in a classic strawberry pot, you only need one plant for the top initially and these little plantlets when they form can be pushed into the holes lower down. The tiny super sweet strawberries often hide amongst the foliage so have a good look when harvesting.
The sweetness of these tiny strawberries makes them a favourite as a graze and eat with children. If you can grow and collect enough they make a delicious conserve that need little boiling to reach a setting point.
Both the leaves and roots are abundant in astringent tannins that have been traditionally used as an infusion to treat diarrhoea. Wild strawberry tea cooled can be used to treat sunburn and the wild strawberries were once rubbed on teeth to white them (maybe before the use of modern toothpastes!)
